Topic: Drop outs, click, buzzes etc wih soft synths

Hi
===========
My System
===========
Fireface 800 with latest driver and firmware
XP sp3
Dual Xeon
4 gb ram

Latency set to 512 Samples in Fireface settings

===================
Problem
===================
I am getting glitches, dropouts, distorted wavering vibrating sound etc in the audio signal when playing any soft synths in Reaper or when playing any soft synth in standalone mode.

=========================================================
Sometimes the audio glitches are intermittent in a strange pattern as follows.
========================================================
I looped a section of midi in Reaper that is playing back a soft synth part and I let it play continuously so I could monitor the audio glitches.

The soft synth midi loop plays back with no glitches in the audio signal for 1 to 5 minutes.
Then the glitches start happening for 20 to 60 seconds.
Then the audio signal returns to normal without any glitches in the audio signal.
This pattern keeps repeating.

It almost seems like some kind of passing interference.
I turned off my Smart phone.
I turned off wireless on all my computers.
(problem still exists)

=========================================================
Other times the glitching audio is persistent and switching the Fireface 800 on and off temporarily fixes the problem.
========================================================
The same thing happens with Standalone synths
The errors count in the Fireface Settings dialog box, increments while the glitches are audible.

I also tried:
Replacing the firewire cable (problem still exists)
Setting Bandwith to Analog 1-8

============================================
Glitching also occurs when playing back recorded audio on a track in Reaper
===========================================
Same patterns as above. Sometimes intermittent... sometimes continuous

================================
No glitching of Input Audio
================================
There is no problem with audio that is coming from the hardware inputss.

What can I do to isolate the problem?
or
Is there a way to have the unit tested?

Re: Drop outs, click, buzzes etc wih soft synths

Hi,
Need more details on your Xeon system. As in Motherboard model and which CPUs.
Also have you optimized XP for audio?

Thanks Chris

Hi

Thanks for responding. Regards

CPU = 2 x Intel Xeon E5450 (8 x 3.0 GHz Cores)
Motherboard = Tyan S5396
Reynier Audio optimized this computers when I purchased it from them.

Thanks again for the help with this.
