Topic: Is me Fireface UFX Faulty?

I just bought an RME Fireface UFX, I have a feeling maybe it is in standalone mode, but I have not figured out how to enable/disable standalone mode - or it's a faulty unit -
I can use the direct monitoring to monitor the inputs on the Fireface, but I am not able to actually record what Im montoring into the computer, even when choosing appropriate inputs on channels in my DAW (Logic, Live)

Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Re: Is me Fireface UFX Faulty?

There is no enable/disable stand alone mode, per se. The unit always operates stand alone, with a connection via USB/FW or not.

Are you able to open the Totalmix FX and Fireface Settings programs on your Mac? What driver/firmware version is reported here? Do you use USB or FW for the connection?

Re: Is me Fireface UFX Faulty?

I am using mac osx snow leopard, the most recent downloadable drivers/flash update for UFX from the RME site, and I have tried both firewire and USB with the same results, yes, I am able to open total mix/settings...
thanks again

Re: Is me Fireface UFX Faulty?

Please be more specific - what exactly does not work and what happens when you try to record?

Re: Is me Fireface UFX Faulty?

Well, I can monitor the audio routed to the UFX inputs, i.e. synthesizers etc... but- There is no incoming audio signal available in the actual computer (using either Logic or Live)

the setup in audio/midi utility is correct, audio in and out both UFX.

I have tried both USB and Firewire connections with the same results: it may be the routing in totalmix, but I don't see how, as I have reset to default, and I have owned babyface and fireface 400 previously, so I am not a stranger to the toalmix software....

I don't know- it almost seems like its in standalone mode, without a usb-stick in the front panel...
