Topic: A little problem with Fireface UFX and Totalmix FX

Hello ,
I´m new in this forum but an old time RME User ( first MF then MF II ), I´ll go straight to the question:

When I connect UFX via USB in my laptop ( Dell Inspiron D630 , C2D 2,2 Ghz , 4Gb RAM , SSD , PCMCIA FW Sitecom chipset VIA)  and works with Samplitude v11 Pro I can work normally even in low latency mode and Totalmix FX opens as used, the only flaw is the CPU consume ( near 50% with no drops at all ) but when I try to use via FW, it works ok ( CPU 17/25 % ) except when TM FX is opened, the image in screen still then it begins to send ticks to all channel at maximum volume and doesn´t stop until Totalmix FX is closed, this happens when all channel is active , in "Only Analog" mode  and " Analog + AES +ADAT 1" mode doesn´t happen at all.

Is this a Totalmix FX bug, is a driver bug ( I don´t think so, with TM FX closed it works ok ) or is my PCMCIA bandwidth suffering when all is activated?

Thanks for all.

Note: This ONLY happens in my laptop, in the desktop works flawlessly

HI,
This sounds like a graphics driver and or power management issue with the laptop.
What operating system are you running on this?
Thanks Chris

Sorry I forget about it.

Win XP Pro , power management is in "Always on" mode, screen saver disabled.
The GPU is a Nvidia Quadro NVS 135M ( 128 Mb internal  + 128 shared )

Re: A little problem with Fireface UFX and Totalmix FX

But , why this only happens with FW connection ?
Connected by USB works ok either with or without Totalmix FX activated

I already update Nvidia and Intel drivers but the bug persist, its strange, the image freezes and audio ticks follow inmediately but as I say only when firewire connected.
Could be my PCMCIA VIA card maybe?

Re: A little problem with Fireface UFX and Totalmix FX

Hi,
If it is XP then what service pack are you using?
The VIA "should" be fine unless something happening on the cardbus connection side of things.
What chip is the cardbus connector?

Thanks Chris

Re: A little problem with Fireface UFX and Totalmix FX

XP SP 3 ( updated from SP2 with FW patches applied ) optimized for audio use.
The card bus is an O2Micro OZ711EZ1 controller ( includes Firewire  but I desactivated it) wich till date is working ok, I run Hammerfall MF 2 flawlessly and the standard Totalmix never freezes.
Any idea?

Thanks!
Ivan

Hi Ivan,
As long as you did the SP2 to SP3 hotfix updates correctly then it "should" work.
I would try a different Texas Instruments based Firewire based cardbus instead.
Have you tried using this with the O2Micro's firewire port enabled?
I think this O2Micro is a combo memory card reader/cardbus and firewire device.
You might try the latest driver for the O2Micro to see if it helps.

Re: A little problem with Fireface UFX and Totalmix FX

I tried with O2´s FW activated/desactivated, network FW act/deact , etc .I´m a computer technician since long ago, I think I´ve tried almost as every way as possible except changing PCMCIA FW controller with can be the last solution. I´ll buy a TI FW adapter and try again, if this woudn´t resolve the issue at least I can use it via USB since it´s working ok ( at the cost of an elevated CPU consume , just compare: with the same latency FW 17% CPU , USB 47-50 % )

Thanks again Chris!
