Topic: unbalanced waveform

Hello,

I'm recording in Nuendo 4 through a RME UC.  My recorded waveforms are displayed as unbalanced.  The positive side can be significantly higher than the negative side and vice versa. I have tried multiple inputs incl - a stratocaster, a musicman bass and a RE20 mic.  I have also tried switching the cables.  The signals are going directly from the source, into the UC, then into Nuendo.

What could be the problem?

p.s. I don't believe it's DC Offset because the waves are still centered in the middle.

Re: unbalanced waveform

Send a sine wave (For example 500hz) from cubaseand record that (a simple sine tone from a vsti will do). If that looks and sounds ok then no problems with the FUC.
Some waves can look really weird. If it all sounds ok it probably is ok.

Re: unbalanced waveform

You can also test with RME Asio Test Tool (RATT), you get it in the "tips and tricks" section. Any DC offset will be clearly visible on level meters. You can also send a sine wave and record it with this simple program. Windows only...
