Topic: Fireface UFX problem

Hello, RME,

A strange thing happened yesterday: I was watching Youtube, and suddenly the sound started to fail (clicks, drops) and after 10 seconds absolutely disappeared. FW LED was green, but TotalMix window was showing, that the card is disconnected. I disconnected a firewire cable from my computer, connected it again. TotalMix showed a few peaks in some channels, but it was still indicating that the Fireface is disconnected. I couldn't control sound volume and ect. Then I turned off and turned on the Fireface, after that everything worked like before.

  Can it be firmware bug?
A few months ago my Fireface UFX was fixed under warranty, but it was not changed to a new unit

ps: how many Fireface UFX have green USB and FW LEDs?

Re: Fireface UFX problem

I got kind of the same problem with my Fireface UFX: working with Ableton Live on my Macbook Pro, then clicks and pops before the sound just stops. The FW led is blue, and TotalMix shows the sound is coming in the first row (Hardware input), but nothing on the 2nd and 3rd row (while Live shows some sound coming in AND out)... until it just comes back from half a second before vanishing again, then nothing for a while and after having put the unit down for, say, 20 minutes it'll work again, for some time only. Strange, as I have never had any problem before this week with it. I should add that I have been using a Fireface 400 for years now on stage and everywhere while travelling, and never had any problem so far.

Oh, and I have the latest drivers and all (updated one or two weeks ago), plus the last version of Live (8.2.5). Could it be the drivers/firmware update? Or should I bring it for service immediately, as the problem seems to come more and more often? I should add there has been some general click on the second row (software playback) at some point, with nothing coming in. I didn't get any sound but could abserve all my channels clipping suddenly.

Please let me know what to do, and thanks for years of happiness so far.

Re: Fireface UFX problem

Seriously this is getting impossible now, and I am in the middle of some very serious job - creating sounds for electric cars, music for an animated movie and teaching at the University in Denmark in 2 weeks about... the use of the Fireface UFX in a recording session!

Is there anything I should try before sending it back, and how can I make sure this gets repaired?
I am hoping for some answers soon, or maybe I should put it in another thread to make it more visible?

Re: Fireface UFX problem

Have you tested the unit with USB? If you suspect a hardware issue, please contact the retailer or local distributor.

Re: Fireface UFX problem

THe Unit works in USB, no problem there. It is the Firewire obviously that's a problem then, so I'll have to send it back... damn.
