Topic: Can't get any more newbie than this...

1. How do you turn on the Phantom power?
2. Is the "Total Mix FX" software it's own mixing software? And if yes, then did I really need to buy Pro Tools 9?

Re: Can't get any more newbie than this...

Figured out #1, but #2, not so sure. One would think that phantom power could be turned on from the unit, and not just in the software.

You DID get that funny little book called a manual yes?? The info is RIGHT THERE dude. DeadHorse

I'am not sure about your interface, but the 48V button for phantom power is in the settings of the TotalMix FX channel (tool button).

2. Is the "Total Mix FX" software it's own mixing software?

TotalMix is a hardware mixer built into the interface itself. The user interface is running on Mac or PC. If you need an external mixer for zero latency headphone mixes or connect and mix external equipment TotalMix will do the job. But it's no audio recording and editing software.

Artic... thanks for the welcome. Imperfect people can be difficult to understand for perfect one's like you who were born with audio expertise, and never had to struggle to understand anything.  But maybe you could raise your charity level, or at least your tolerance level a dB or two.
Knut... thanks for the information. I found it in the online searchable manual, which said to click on the settings fly out for channels 1/2, and select phantom for that channel. I didn't see the tool button you mentioned.  Still trying to figure out how to configure the output. Am using Pro Tools 9 on a PC. I think the manuals are likely much more clear to audiophiles than to someone like myself who has done no recording in 6 years. It would be nice if there were one place that helps you make all these connections at once, as it could make getting started easier for people in my situation. I appreciate your being here for this though very much. Thanks

This is the button you have clicked before to get the settings flyout - the one with the tool symbol (spanner).

We have some tutorial videos here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwoKoxYf … ature=plcp

Re: Can't get any more newbie than this...

Ah... sorry.
About the link.... I went there, but it doesn't seem to be about the Total Mix FX, but some other software, as it doesn't look like mine at all, and says... "HDSP Mixer" at the top, and perhaps this is some particular function within Total Mix. But I see in the other available videos what appears to be a great many other videos available on the subject, so this will prove very helpful.

Re: Can't get any more newbie than this...

This is the previous version which works with the same principles. The video is very helpful for understanding the main features of TotalMix.
