Topic: FF 800 Model differences

Dear RME users and supporters.

I decided to buy myself FF800.
Since it is used and one of the earliest models from 2005 i have a question.
Are there any differences in the quality build or driver support from the early 2005 models compared to latest models.
Should I have any concerns buying FF800 from 2005?

Thank you very much for your kind help.

Re: FF 800 Model differences

I have one from 2005, still runs great :-)

The only thing to worry about is if your computer has a decent FW chip(TI)

Re: FF 800 Model differences

Computer is iMAC with Firewire 800.
I believe your Rme is working great.
I guess there are not differences than?

Re: FF 800 Model differences

I don't know if there are any differences, but it doesn't hurt to try before you buy?

Re: FF 800 Model differences

Hi,

the only differens is with AKM DA converter chip
AK4395 to AK4396 to my knowledge
changed around 2005-06 I believe, I still have mine FF800
from august 2004 and it's working fine, knock on wood :-)

of course there can be more internal changing, better resistors
psu and micpreamp upgrade but I'm just guessing here.

There were some cases of corrosion developing on the input/output jacks on units from that era.
Search the Forum for "corrosion" for more details.

Re: FF 800 Model differences

Hey there,

there WAS an issue with crackling in the headphone output (only) with new firmware on older FF800 - I have one of those. It can be sent in for a fix, but I haven't done so yet, running fine on old firmware and drivers in Win7 64 though.
