Topic: Digicheck Global Record. File not recognised?

Hello. I am a school music teacher and this past weekend I recorded my school's music concert using Digicheck's Global Record function. I am unable to open one of the two resultant multichannel files (comprised of eight 24 bit, 44.1Khz tracks) with Cubase 6. One works fine :-) however the other does not ed:

Full details are as follows:

Gear used: a Lenovo T520 laptop, W7x64, Madiface Expresscard interface, connected to a Micstacy with Madi card (an ADI8QS was also connected to the Micstacy ADAT outputs in order to send out a stereo line-level mix to a set of powered speakers for funk-band vocalists, big band soloists etc...). As I was doing the recording, rough-mixing the vocalist/soloist levels, stage managing and also performing in some of the items, I simply let Global Record record the whole concert and only split the concert recording into two halves at interval. I saved both halves as multichannel files in the same manner and have successfully imported the first half into Cubase 6. This process all worked as expected and without any problems.

The second half of the concert, however is not recognized and cannot be opened by Cubase. Upon trying to import it into Cubase I receive the following error message:

Error: Medium type not supported or invalid medium! :-O

Importantly, the audio on all 8 channels is still there and is intact, as I can load the problematic file within Global Record and it plays back fine.

I am assuming that it is a file header issue, but am not really sure. How do I go about checking and possibly altering the file header so that the file is recognized & opened correctly? Could it also be a file-size issue? The first half of the concert is 3.78 GB (4,059,386,624 bytes) whilst the second half is 5.53 GB (5,945,103,104 bytes). When I look up the file properties in Windows Explorer, the details of the first file are listed (8467kbps) as is the file length (01.03.55). The second file however does not show this information.

What do I do next, in order to salvage this concert recording and make it editable within my DAW. I am meant to deliver the final recordings for upload to the school server tomorrow, and would love some assistance. Any ideas??

Load the second one in DC (as you did) and export it again, in different formats, also as stereo files. Maybe the import works then.

Hello again.

Matthias, thank you for your very quick response, it is much appreciated. I did as you suggested and exported the Digicheck interleaved file once more, this time as separate mono files. These mono files were then able to be imported into Cubase just fine :-)

I'm not sure what the problem was, but it is great to realize that the Digicheck file can be saved once again in different formats, even after the initial recording. I will stick with the interleaved option for the actual recordings due to the lower demands this places on my hard-drive, and if I have any more problems on importing into my DAW, I will resort to a new export in another format.
