Topic: RME Digi 96/8 PAD Explanations.

Hallo i have an rme digi pad 96/8 and im confussed with its features.
this version of my card is d-sub 9pin with 2 rca red/white but without XLRs.
and im asking:
1)what exactly do these 2 rca on the d-sub plug (works as inputs or outputs or both) because i tried to connect my stereo and hear nothing.
2.Im thinking to construct a new d-sub 9pin with XLR on it as it describes in the manual following the numbers and here is the basic problem for me.These XLRs will be working both as inputs or outputs? unbalanced or balanced connections? Can i use them both for outputs or inputs?
the main reason im writing these lines is that I want to be using ballanced outpus for better sound and to connect my card to a professional compressor limiter which it has ballanced inputs and outputs. Please help i need to know if it worth to make the breakout cable!

Re: RME Digi 96/8 PAD Explanations.

The breakout cable is digital only, SPDIF is on the RCA and AES/EBU on the XLR. Your analog channels are 1/4" jacks on the card itself, as unbalanced stereo I/O.

Here is the manual: https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/968pae.pdf

If you want to use balanced analog I/O then you need an external AD/DA converter that has optical, SPDIF, or AES/EBU connection.

Re: RME Digi 96/8 PAD Explanations.

when u said external what u mean as i know this card has a daugterboard with 4 outs 1/4 that can working as ballanced outs

Re: RME Digi 96/8 PAD Explanations.

Yes, if you can still find an old AEB4O and AEB4I you can use these daughter cards for converters. Or use an external AD/DA that connected to the digital I/Os on the main card.
