Topic: Realistic Latency for Win7 64bit and FF800

Hi I have a quad core intel Q6600 machine using an asus P5B mobo and 8 gigs of Ram. The FF800 runs into a Belkin PCi card with Ti chipset.  I love the workflow for video (Adobe Suite) of Win7 64bit , so I have been trying to get my audio thing going on this OS with Sonar 8.5.3 64bit.  Now,  on XP 32bit I know I could record with input monitoring at 128 samples (or lower??) and no clicks or pops.  That was the previous firmware and not sure what driver.  With Win7 64bit I still get clicks and pops at 256 samples.  Frustrating having to record without input monitoring because there is no cool vibe and the latency for Vi's is unuseable really.  My question is if I go all in with a new i7 machine, will my latency be lowered to a useable level on win 7 64bit?  Or, will I still be booting to a different OS partition to make music?  Anyone with any experience with Win7 64bit and maybe Sonar 64bit as well along with FF800 and your latency findings in the real world?  Thanks..!!

Try this question here. http://forum.dawbench.com/forum.php Great place, RME used a lot.
In my opinion, if you do it right yes much better. A P5B and Q6600 are just a little to old for windows 7.
One generation later, p45 chipset and Q9**** is first generation that is ok for win7.

Oh and if you don´t want to upgrade, win XP64 is running great here. Performs the same as XP 32 bit, I also use it on a Q6600 (secondary system, no RME sad )

Re: Realistic Latency for Win7 64bit and FF800

Thanks for the reply.  This setup seems to handle quite a load for mixing like 20-30 tracks with all kinds of plugins.  Works great in that regard.  Its only latency while recording that is an issue.  I just became aware that certain FF800's may not function properly with the new Firmware and introduce clicks and pops.  I submitted my serial # to Matthias (sp?) and support here at RME.  I am waiting for a reply and assuming I don't require a mod for my FF800 I will be either trading for a pci device or upgrading my machine or both.  cheers!!
