Topic: Multiface channel weirdness with WDM on 3.26

I have a Multiface (8 analog + 2 spdif + 8 adat) unit that reports four 2 channel WDM devices, Analog (1+2) to Analog (7+8).

Prior to 3.26, the Analog (1+2) reported 8 channels (!!) in KsStudio, but couldn't be opened with more than 2 channels.

Now it reports 8 channels, and can be opened in 8 channels. It should report 2 channels, and not be able to be opened with more than 2 channels.

Why?

Because it is "Analog (1+2)", i.e. 2 channels ?? All the other devices (3+4),(5+6) & (7+8) behave this way.

So the question is rather, why should (1+2) behave differently ?

If nothing else, create another device "Analog (8 ch)", then there'd be no confusion.

Well, it reports 8 channels because it is the Loudspeaker Device in Windows WDM, and can play back up to 8 channels surround sound. I don't see what is wrong with that. It's industry standard, so to say. Am I missing something?

Yes you are. I'll try and put it more simply. "Analog (1+2)" should be channels 1 & 2, right ? So with that name, where does channels 3 to 8 come into question ?? Even if the device in itself does support it ?

I'm only suggesting that there should be an additional device with the name "Analog (8 ch)", for clarity.

Besides, if you open 8 channels with that input, inputs (3+4) to (7+8) cannot be opened, as (1+2) already has their channels "locked", which would seem very illogical.

Are you talking about the WDM input (record) or playback devices?

I'm talking (mainly) about the output devices. I don't know whether this applies to rec devices.
