Topic: Urgetn help needed: Fireface UC + Fireface 400 at same time?

Hi. I bought another fireface UC to use with my existing one to record a show to 16tks, when it turned up it turned out to be a fireface 400 sad I need to know whether I can use them together before I open the packaging... Show starts in four hours... haha. if not wil just record to 8tks certainly not a show stopper.

Cheers!

Chris

Not in the same program because they are different drivers - you would have to select either Fireface FW (FF400) or Fireface USB (FFUC) in your recording program, so only eight tracks maximum either way.

But - you could program TotalMix in the the FF400 so that all 8 analog inputs were connected to the ADAT out, and connect this to the ADAT in of the FFUC (as long as your sample rate was 44K1 or 48K) - this would give you 16 tracks simultaneously via the FFUC.  (NB>  Set sync on the FFUC to the ADAT input or use wordclock.)

But I suppose this advice might be a bit late for you .... o:(

OK I finally made some progress on this... haha.

I have combined the UC and 400 using the Aggregate Device in OSX , but there appears to be some amount of 'phasing' going on between the two devices. I have the 'drift' control turned on in the Audio MIDI control setup in OSX, which seems to make it better...
Idea how I can lock to two machines together? Maybe it is a problem with the two drivers being combines in OSX?

Cheers for your help

Chris

It's important to use a word clock connection with one master and one slave. Every combination of interfaces will drift away sooner or later despite any software sync (like aggregate device). This can be done on the UC and 400 via a connection with a word clock cable, a coaxial or an optical cable.
