Topic: Is TotalMix FX better than the old TotalMix?

There are some things about the "old" TotalMix that really annoy me, notably:
- when I mute an input channel it is muted on all outputs, not just on the control room output
- screen resolution is so small I can barely read the numbers
- hardware outputs only work in stereo pairs, there is no way to create a mono cue out.

I am curious if these points have been changed with the new TotalMix FX. Can somebody enlighten me? What's new in TotalMix FX apart from the eq / dynamics / fx sections (which I have no use for)?

Except for the screen resolution everything has changed.

So the screen resolution is exactly the same and cannot be changed? Is there a specific reason for the relatively small resolution? I think it would be great if TotalMix could be run in full-screen mode. When I am recording, I toggle between Cubase and TotalMix using Alt+Tab. It would be very comfortable having both programs in full-screen mode.

Exactly. My screen resolution is 1920x1080 and the totalMix is painfully small. It is hard to see the figures and icons. It would be grat to have the totalmix in a larger fashion.
RME please do this to make the fireface 800 the most perfect interface ever !!!!

If you have 1920x1080 on anything smaller than a 22" screen then you have a lot of problems with many other programs too...

Re: Is TotalMix FX better than the old TotalMix?

My screen is 1680x1050, 22". I do have a bit of a problem with the fonts in some plugin windows as well, BUT: For plugin windows, it makes sense to be small. They are embedded in another program with other windows. I wouldn't want a plugin window to be full-screen, because then I couldn't see the mixer or edit window anymore. For TotalMix, on the other hand, this doesn't apply, at least not for me, because I don't need to see the TotalMix window at the same time as the mixer and edit windows of Cubase or Pro Tools.

Would it be a lot of programming work to have two available resolutions for TotalMix?

Re: Is TotalMix FX better than the old TotalMix?

I have two 23" monitors (dual monitor setup). I don't understand why TotalMix should be this small!!!. I mean in the past the monitors were small(17") but in the year 2011 most people are using large screens and even multiple monitors. It would be great to have to two different skins. One for large screens and the other for laptops and small screens.
Matthias please take it seriously. TotalMix is amazing but the size of its skin is not appropriate for 2011.

Re: Is TotalMix FX better than the old TotalMix?

Don't forget countless netbooks and Macbooks 13/15. Others complain that they don't get enough channels on their screens. So it has to be a compromise. TotalMix is not smaller than the mixers in common DAWs (Logic, Cubase ...).

Btw. unfortunately it's not a "skin". It's a fixed resolution and canot be changed without a huge programming effort.

Re: Is TotalMix FX better than the old TotalMix?

I love RME company and I always advise my friends to use RME products for the reliability and the great great great support. I really appreciate the constant updates of the drivers and firmwares. I do believe that the biggest upgrade would be re-sizing the TotalMix. As I said before, RME can keep the current TotalMix for the small screens and develop a bigger one for the large screens.
I don't expect this from low and middle class companies but regarding the RME it is something which is expected.

Yes it is. FWIW, some other DSP mixers I know are the ones from Apogee (Ensemble) and Metric Halo. They are both full-screen, with larger fonts and faders.

I am also a big fan of RME products, but I must admit that I prefer the above mentionned DSP mixers to RME's TotalMix.
