Topic: Fireface 400 & OSX 10.7 line in 3 & 4 gain settings
Hello,
Since the firewire version 3.0 driver update for lion (Including the 3.0.1 incremental update) I have observed that the minimum gain setting for the line inputs 3 & 4 has become half-way up the scale, or +9 dB. I can move the slider back dow to zero, but it has no effect on the input gain. It will move back to +9dB of it's own accord if left alone. Input gain in Audio/Midi setup for Line 3/4 shows a value of zero, but +9db, as it does also for inputs 1/2.
When I inject pink noise @ 0.00 dBu from my Minirator into line inputs 3 & 4, the meter in total mix shows "0", or about -12 dBFS. so there is no issue with input calibration. The issue seems to be with fader calibration in the Fireface Settings panel. The input gain faders for 1/2 in Audio/Midi setup directly correlate with the position and gain for the respective faders in Fireface Settings. For inputs 3/4, they do not.
When I inject pink at -18 dBu the input meter shows about -30dBFS. When I move the respective Fireface Settings slider to +18dB (or +9dB increase), the input level only increases by about 5dBFS. If I move the Audio/Midi input slider from minimum to maximum (ostensibly +18dB?) The input level increases to "0", or -12dBFS, as it should.
To reiterate, there is nothing wrong with the input sensitivity, only the useable gain control for the two inputs 3 & 4, from the Fireface Settings panel. The full range of input gain settings are available from the Audio/Midi Settings application.
These are my observations and a "bug report" and are not meant to be a complaint, as I think the development team do a fantastic job, and have the best drivers and ancillary software of any hardware manufacturer in the market.
Regards,
Chris
