Topic: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

Hello,

Yesterday I installed a RME HDPS MADI pci card in my computer (Asus P4B with 2400 ghz processor, 1gb mem, windows XP, Cubase 5).
I connected a SSL Alpha link MADI AX.
SSL is master clock and connected with a 75ohm wordclock cable to the wordclock input of the RME card.

I can playback tracks fine.
But I can't record.
Level meters on de SSL light up, but the RME card is receiving nothing.
I already switched madi cables but nothing changed.

Hopefully anybody can help.

best regards,

Matthijs

Hello, check HDSP Settings app. Make sure you have the correct MADI input selected (optical/coaxial).

Re: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

Hello,

Thank you for the advice.
But I already did this.

The HDSP settings app says in the MADI input Status part: optical
Nothing more then that.
In the manual is much more information suggested.

I also wonder if this is right:
When I check the Auto option next to the MADI In selection box, the input status always says: "coaxial".
I haven't connect anything on the coax in- and outputs.

Does this info help any further?
I hope so.

thanx in advance!

Re: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

Maybe info that's nescessary to know:

The error led on the back lights up.

And besides that there's a difference between the menu's I see on my computerscreen and are printed in the manual:
My Hammerfall DSP settings app has two pages: MADI(1) and About.
In the manual is written and put down pitures of a three pages app: Madi(1), DDS and About

I already have updatet the firmware with a dc_453.zip file.

Re: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

The MADI card does not find any signal on Optical input, not even clock. Please check the routing of your SSL unit. Analog in should be routed to MADI out.

You can also self-test the HDSP MADI card and cable to make sure these work as expected: set the HDSP card to internal clock, then connect the MADI cable in loop back configuration (HDSP MADI out to HDSP MADI in). If the error LED goes out and the Settings panel shows sync, then the problem most likely comes from the SSL unit.

dc_453.zip is not a firmware updater, this is the DIGIcheck installer. Look at the About tab to check your driver version and hardware revision (firmware).

Re: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

Jeff: thanx a lot for this information.

I tried what you suggested.
I set the clock to internal and connected the RME HDSP's madi output to the madi input.
The error led didn't stop glowing.

I think I can conclude that the HDSP MADI is broken?

Re: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

By the way:

I did the same check on my SSL.
And all audio data was put through the right way..so that could be seen as a confirmation of my previous post I think.

Re: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

Please tell us which driver and firmware is installed for the card, as reported on the About tab of HDSP Settings.

Re: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

Driver date: 08-03-2011
version 3.26

Hardware revision: 207

I made a mistake in post #4
I did install Digicheck, but I also did a firmware update with this file: hdsp_wdm_fut.exe

On the hardware-card was written: Rev 1.1.1

If the MADI input was chosen correctly in settings, and the same cable was used for the SSL self test, then it would seem so.

Re: SSL Alpha link MADI AX can't record

I'll have to consider this MADI card broken I'm afraid.
Do people here know were I can ask for repairment?
