Topic: RME UFX - Headphones output to outs 7/8

I have been having a ton of fun with the UFX and it seems to be doing everything and anything that I ask it to do. However I have a question about using the outputs on 7/8 (or any other) as headphone outputs. TotalMix FX lets you set these outputs as headphone outs but they are balanced outs so I hear the same through both ears. Do I need a special cable to route outputs 7/8 to one set of headphones.

Anyway I'll keep looking,
Take care,

If you want to use the balanced line outs for more headphone mixes then you should connect to a headphone amp such as: http://www.aphex.com/454.htm

Re: RME UFX - Headphones output to outs 7/8

could i use a y-cable? like one with 2 male TRS and 1 female TRS.

I want to be able to adjust the levels and everything from TotalMix or my DAW. Also why does Total Mix allow me to set that as a headphone out without changing it from balanced to simple stereo.

Thanks for your reply I may just get something like that.

Re: RME UFX - Headphones output to outs 7/8

Using Y-cable from balanced analog out to headphone is usually not a good idea, because the impedance is not matched for the intended use. In a worst scenario, you would damage your headphone, or the sound quality is bad. As suggested by the mod, I recommend to get a headphone amp. Cheap ones usually do most of the job, unless you want hi fi headphone amps.

Re: RME UFX - Headphones output to outs 7/8

thanks very much I bought a behringer (i know, i know) AMP800 because it has inputs for 2 balanced inputs to be fed to the headphones and you can select what output you want to go to which. I'm thinking on using outputs 5/6 and 7/8, 9/10, and 11/12 for headphones. So I just need two single channel amps or one dual channel.

Anyway thanks for your reply

I was also messing with the loopback capability and was able to use my Virtual Instruments from Cubase 6 in Reaper. It was pretty awesome that it could do that. I am really enjoying my UFX.
