Topic: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

Hello,

it seems that the adapter was tested with
the Hammerfall hdsp multiface II

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoe … rbolt.html

it is on the list of compatible devices now.

After some astonishing answers from rme side I think this is the first usefull post belonging to that topic after more than one year....

regards,
joa

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

I don't know what "astonishing answers" you mean exactly, but the adapter was just published this month, so no one could know any real answers before that.

Since I just got the adapter myself right before the holidays I did not find time yet to send it through its paces.

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

If this works with a Multiface II, will it work with a Digiface?

I've been holding off buying a Mac waiting for RME/user reports on this adapter.  I'd like to go with a
Prism Orpheus + MR816 into a Digiface -> HDSPe ExpressCard -> Sonnet ExpressCard Adapter -> Mac Mini Server.

Otherwise, I'll have to spend considerably more on a Mac Pro and Raydat combination.

This would leave little budget left over for other things...

Logic 9.1.8 (1700.67) (32-bit) - OS X Lion 10.7.5
Digiface <-> [Fireface UCX & Prism Orpheus - ADAT]

If it works with the HDSPe Expresscard, it works with any external HDSP device. Digiface, RPM. And the MADIface will work too.

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

Hi Timur,

Due to the fact that other 3rd party companies had been able to test their products with the sonnet echo adapter before the final release a customer of rme could expect more helpful answers than "not released yet." from rme.
Answers like " We try to contact sonnet to evaluate compability" would have been a much better way of customer treatment. (at least if rme really tries it :-) )

but now i am happy that i did NOT purchase a UFX during the last year (my 2 Multifaces were useless after my macbook pro had to be replaced by a new one due to hw failure) .

And to be honest : the way MC answered several month ago some questions regarding solutions to use the hdsp xpress cards together with the thunderbolt macs kept me away from selling my Multifaces and replacing them with the fireface ufx.-> A good customer relationship sometimes helps to sell further products ;-)

joa

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

These are Mini Displayport cables. They cannot work. Only the original Apple cable with active electronics, inside a dozen chips and 50 smaller components, can work on a Thunderbolt port.

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

And the cable cost $50.....wow.

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

Anyone knows if it adds any latency to audio sygnal when using with Madiface? Is it stable enough to use it in Live aplications for example waves multirack or any multitrack live recording?

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

I got hold of a real Apple Thunderbolt cable today, it just popped up as i should when connecting.
I have tryed it with my Logic and it looks fine..

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

Thanks for  your help. Do you know any shop shipping this to Europe?

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

Looks like the life of my Multiface HDSPe just got extended another decade perhaps?  Very nice!  That's customer service!

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

Got my adapter!
the echo adapter works very well with my good old hammerfall dsp multiface I but you need the original 50€ apple thunderbolt cable. The xpress card stands a bit to wide out of the adapter's case. in rough live situations you have to be careful not to damage the xpress card.
look at this picture to see what i mean...

but besides that, everything seems to be working without problems.

Re: Sonnet Echo Thunderbolt adapter working...

Hello I've connected Raydat through Sonnet Echo TB3 and 90% percent of things are working great. The only thing is not working for me is usb midi - it creates a noticeable lag, even on 32ms latency, and it's pretty hard to work on it. I work in Ableton. Anyone addressed this problem maybe?
