Topic: Babyface questions

Hi
I've just got myself a nice new babyface 'snow edition' as an upgrade from my hdsp9632 and have a couple of questions

1)  I bought the snow edition mainly because of the extra rca cables included, I have a hifi amp,  but after receiving I suddenly realised I'm going to need the xlr inputs for my mics.  There does not seem to be a cable available that has both options so could I use some xlr to rca adaptors on the outputs?  What would be the downside of this?

2)  I understand that the lowest output latency on Mac is 14 samples.  Are there any known applications where I can try this low latency?

3) Is the USB cable a standard printer cable - if so can I safely use a longer cable or will there be an impact on performance?

Thanks a lot for any answers

RCA connectors are unbalanced. Unbalanced connectors allow hum and buzz into your signal path by design. 3 pin XLR connectors are balanced connectors. They reject buzz and hum by design when connected with balanced shielded microphone cable. Star Quad cable and Neutrix EMC XLR ( http://www.neutrik.com/en/xlr/xlr-cable … mc-series/ ) connectors provide the highest level of signal transfer integrity

The USB cable length limit is 5 metres. Read the full explanation here: http://www.usb.org/developers/usbfaq/

Re: Babyface questions

Thanks a lot for the replies.

My cable runs are short so hopefully a couple of these will do the trick and hum etc will be minimal.

I also bought a cheap 1.8m usb cable which appears to work perfectly! (only trouble is it is not white, like it said on the packet, but cream - looks ugly against the ice white of the 'snow' edition)

Re: Babyface questions

I have achieved amazing performance with reaper - 14 samples buffer playing Toontrack Superior 2 live with edrums with no glitches at all!

I do have one problem however in that if I play iTunes simultaneously whilst Reaper is running. initially playback will be fine but after a while I start getting audio dropouts in iTunes (reaper is fine).  I have reaper routed to AN 1 and 2 whilst system audio, iTunes, is routed to channels 7 and 8.  Any thoughts?

(I'm also getting the same issue with cubase 6 and Toontrack solo)
