Topic: Routing multiple inputs / channels to Skype?

Hi,

I am considering purchasing an RME Fireface UC but, despite any other work I need to do with it, it will need to work with Skype and other Windows audio programs that don't support ASIO.

I have never used TotalMix but have read up a little and it seems as though it's possible to send one channel of audio to a WDM device (i.e. something that would be selectable as the 'Mic' in Skype). Is it possible to send multiple channels to the one WDM device?

E.g. could I route the 'mic' and maybe an 'SPDIF In' to one submix?

I know I could use a seperate device just for Skype but I want to avoid that so, as sad as it seems with a hi-end audio device, this is kind of a deal breaker. :-/

Thanks,

Torsten.

Re: Routing multiple inputs / channels to Skype?

I'm not a Skype user, but I do recall reading one of MC's posts that Skype seems to require the use of RME's Input #1 to work.  I suppose you could try a Totalmix "Loopback" on Output/Input #1, and buss all of the desired inputs to TM's Output #1 (which then feeds input #1 via Loopback).  I'd assume WDM responds to Loopback the same as ASIO since the Loopback routing is done at the hardware level (prior to the driver IIRC).

So - my uninformed answer is "Maybe"? :-)

There was a youtube video that used Virtual Audio Cable and Reaper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRIfHGd2OPo

Haven't tried it myself.

Re: Routing multiple inputs / channels to Skype?

Totalmix has nothing to do with WDM devices as such, you can mix and route anything anywhere in Totalmix. Besides, the current UC drivers will also allow multiple applications to play audio to one WDM channel pair.
