Topic: RME HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 - Problems with ADAT 1+2 and ADAT 7+8 outputs

RME HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 seems to have problems playing MONO files with foobar2000 1.1.10 (no DSP effects loaded) over ADAT 1+2 output. STEREO files don't seem to be affected - they are working fine on ADAT 1+2 output!

Test results:

Output ADAT 1+2 (32bit): No sound!
Output ADAT 1+2 (16bit): Working!

Output Analog 1+2 (32bit): Working
Output SPDIF (32bit): Working
Output ADAT 3+4 (32bit): Working
Output ADAT 5+6 (32bit): Working
Output ADAT 7+8 (32bit): Working

Any idea why ADAT 1+2 has these problems with mono files at 32bit output? Reboot of my machine and a reset of foobar2000 preferences didn't help sad

I'm on Windows XP SP3, HDSP 9632.

Please be a bit more specific than "no sound". What exactly happens, what does the mixer show? Which RME card is this?

Re: RME HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 - Problems with ADAT 1+2 and ADAT 7+8 outputs

Oh, I forgot: HDSP 9632. "No sound" means the Mixer is showing nothing (-inf) on these outputs!

Re: RME HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 - Problems with ADAT 1+2 and ADAT 7+8 outputs

EDIT: ADAT 7+8 is working (forgot to submix it to the Analog hardware outputs). But ADAT 1+2 definitely isn't working with mono files! Mixer showing nothing (-inf) in playback row! It's only working when setting foobar2000 to output 16bit to ADAT 1+2 outputs. 32bit output doesn't work for ADAT 1+2. All other outputs are working fine at 32bit!

Playback row = middle row?
Does this only occur with Foobar?

You have to think about the used output mode. ASIO? Will work. WDM? Will work on the Speaker Output, WDM takes care of Mono/Stereo relations. WDM real mono playback - most probably not supported. Like any other software Foobar should default to stereo mode and play the mono file as stereo signal, then it will work as well. Maybe there is a setting for that?

Re: RME HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 - Problems with ADAT 1+2 and ADAT 7+8 outputs

No, there's no setting for that. I'm using WDM output. Why is is that only ADAT 1+2 has this problem? And why does it work when setting foobar2000 to output just 16bit over ADAT 1+2?

Yes, Playback row = middle row. Windows Media Player 11 and Media Player Classic Homecinema both plays the file over ADAT 1+2.

Ok, inserting the "Mono to stereo" DSP effect in foobar2000 makes it working. Obviously a new bug in foobar2000? Any foobar2000 users here?

I don't think that could be called a bug. And that it works with ADAT 1/2 in 16 bit might be a special mono routine built in long ago which is still there. These days we don't do things like that anymore, the driver is complicated enough...

Re: RME HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 - Problems with ADAT 1+2 and ADAT 7+8 outputs

I don't fully understand you Matthias. You're saying it's caused by the HDSP driver? What's so special with the ADAT 1+2 outputs?

Re: RME HDSP(e) Driver 3.27 - Problems with ADAT 1+2 and ADAT 7+8 outputs

I'm also pretty sure that this was working sometime ago! Will test it next week (downgrade HDSP drivers / foobar2000) ...

This test is of no use as we will not add (more) mono routines to the driver - definitely.

Mmh, weird.
