Topic: FF800 conflicts with Mac Pro

Hi there!

I've been using my FF800 with Windows and everything was great. Recently I have bought a brand new Mac Pro 3.2 GHz Quad Core, installed FF800 driver for Mac OS X, but the card wouldn't work properly. I am experiencing a distorted signal on the output while using Ableton Live, I also tested it in Garage Band - same thing - the output signal is distorted and I've got an error message saying that my computer's operational system conflicts with external sound card.

Please help.

Thank you.

Re: FF800 conflicts with Mac Pro

You never denoted which driver you're using nor the OS version (I assume Snow Leopard though). That will probably be vital information as not all drivers work properly across all versions of OSX. I'm using a Mac Pro also without any issues with the latest 2.90 driver and Snow Leopard 10.6.6, for instance. If you aren't using the newest driver you may want to do so, in the meantime, until someone from RME replies.

Sorry if that doesn't help.

Thank you for the response, Treefingers! I figured it out - i didn't install an updater for the rme driver

Re: FF800 conflicts with Mac Pro

Hello, New to the forum, haven't figured out how to start new thread, so this seemed like topic similar to my question:

I have a Mac Pro and am considering going with a FF 800, but so many posts I've seen here make it sound like a horrific challenge to get the two to work together. Albeit many of the posts are old, so I'm wondering what the compatibility is like these days?

Here's my config:
2006 Mac Pro version "1,1"; 2 Dual-Core 2GHz Xeon processors; 11GB RAM w/ 667Mhz FSB; OSX 10.6; 2 internal SATA HD's 7200rpm (I assume on same SATA channel--Drive slots 1 & 2); Native Firewire=400.

My questions are:
Are there still firewire compatibility issues between Mac Pros and FF800s? Is the "Use external HD workaround" still needed?
If so, which HD brand/model is proven stable?

My computer is FW 400 only...Is there a PCIe FW800 card that works well (TI Chipset?) with this computer & FF800?

If all these are no longer issues, will using an external HD for file locations improve performance vs using an internal drive?
I can add an internal to slot 3, I'm assuming this puts the HD on a separate SATA channel than the OS, does that help?
If external better than internal, would external USB HD be better than FW to keep the buses separate?
Would USB 3.0 via PCIe card be better/faster/more stable? (or less stable?)

And finally, I have a MacBook Pro with following specs, would it be faster/more reliable to run instead on the laptop?
MacBook Pro 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 processor; 8GB RAM 1.3GHz FSB, OSX 10.6.8; 1 internal 750GB HD 5400rpm, and can use whatever you suggest for external hard drive; Native firewire=800.

I'm planning on getting Logic Pro.

Thank you very much for any input or suggestions,

Filote

Re: FF800 conflicts with Mac Pro

That was the 2008 or so iMac & Macbook Pro. You should not have any problem with your Mac Pro. No need for FW800 for one unit, it performs perfectly on FW400.
