Topic: Guitar Direct In To Fireface 400

I changed up to a Fireface 400 to improve latency issues I was having with an EMU 1616M PCI card.

It did the trick, I have zero latency now, but I have another problem.

When I plug my electric guitar directly into Input 1, it sounds very very dull, as if the tone pot is completely off. Ive tried three guitars with the same result, I then re-installed the old EMU 1616M and all three guitars sound bright as they should.

Im worried, am I missing something simple?
Is there a better input socket to use?

Finally I havent tried any other insturment yet.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Lee

Re: Guitar Direct In To Fireface 400

Inputs 3 and 4 are stunningly flexible balanced universal inputs. Firstly, they operate exactly as inputs 5 to 8 on the rear and can be adjusted to accept standard studio input levels (+4 dBu, LoGain). Furthermore, the input impedance can be switched from Line (10 kOhm) to Instrument (470 kOhm). An additional analog input amplification of up to 18 dB (in steps of 0.5 dB) is also available. In short: There's no signal that these inputs can't deal with perfectly!

There you have it, straight from the horses mouth!

Many thanks for the reply and advice.

My guitars are not active, so what would be the best input impandance to use for them?

The 470 kOhm setting. The higher the better for guitars.
