Topic: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

Hello good people.

Just bought a FireFace400 to use it with my iMac 3.06Ghz Intel. I went to the RME website, and got the driver for 10.6.8, installed it and restart. Now the icons are showing in the 'Applications' folder, but when i try to start the mixer or the FF Settings it simply does not open.  I had the interface connected during installation process, and even after it shows the host led red. When i try to open the FUT, it says "No driver or device installed"  I'm using fw 800 cable with an adapter to fw400.    Can someone please help me fix this issue?

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

If I remember correctly, you shouldn't have the interface connected when installing the software?

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

alexoosthoek I tried with the FF disconnected, still a no-go... Going crazy here guys..

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

Most likely the adapter doesn't work. Otherwise, try a different cable, try the FF on a different computer.

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

Jeff, I've installed the driver with no cable or the FF connected. Wouldn't be normal to be able to open the mixer or the FF settings after install with no FF connected? Plus, if i open the FUT right after install, it acts like it doesn't detect any FF driver or device installed. And i'm on e fresh copy of 10.6.8

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

Can someone using Mac OS X 10.6.8 please email me these files? I don't seem to find these on my system.
/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.rme.FirefaceMixer.plist
/Users/username/Library/Preferences/de.rme-audio.FirefaceSettings.plist
And also could you tell me exactly the contents of the /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Fireface Folder

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

I hope the best for you but maybe your FW Controller of your FF is broken.
This wouldn't be the first time with this interfaces.

Just fire it down

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

Uhm, The FF is 2 days old, and i've just tested it on an Windows platform. Worked just fine. I need those files though.. I would really appreciate it if someone would take 2 minutes and help me..

Your own FF driver will create these files when the unit is detected. If the FF400 is never detected, then they don't exist. Using someone else's preference files will not fix anything.

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

Ok Jeff, so then the driver creates those files during the installation and with the FF connected, yes? I did that. so that leaves only... what, the cable? I got an 400to800 (adapted) cable which i think it works since the unit receives power in host mode. I'm confused

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

Since the unit works on the PC, this means there is a problem with the connection on the Mac. Either the FW port on the Mac is not working, or more likely, the cable or adapter is causing trouble.

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

I've just ordered a new cable 400to800 whole in one. Let' hope it will work. I'll be back in a few days with an update. Thanks

Re: FF 400 Mac OSX driver installation problem

Hello again,
I've tried with the new cable, still a no-go. Don't know what to do next.. I installed the driver according to the instructions in the video on the website. Still the same problem. I got a friend of mine who runs the exact same setup as me. iMac + FF400. His works just fine..
