Please add hardware convolver and possibility to use soundcard as standalone DSP platform.

Please add hardware convolver

Don't count on it. It's beyond any reasonable price point for an audio interface.

and possibility to use soundcard as standalone DSP platform.

UCX and UFX work stand-alone with all DSP effects. In the UFX they are even editable with the display.

Re: Hardware convolver and standalone mode

Yes but these are hottest features awaited for over 20 years now. I work as a DJ and sound engineer. This will save a lot of time and make life easier.

Hello it's 2012 :-)

Re: Hardware convolver and standalone mode

Sure. Thats why RME developed the UFX - with the most complete stand-alone DSP mixer, including effects, which can even be edited. Makes life not only easy, but saves a lot of time. Perfect for DJs and engineers.

For a convolver I can recommend the Sony DRE-S777. Maybe you can pick a used one somewhere. Great unit. A little bit big, but a really outstanding reverb unit with fancy wood on the front. James Horner used some of them on some famous soundtracks. Or just use a plugin on your host computer. There are very hot ones available since years.

Re: Hardware convolver and standalone mode

Need advanced FIR filters like DRC, crossovers, ambisonics generated by eg. Acourate, RoomEQ Wizzard, Aurora plugins (prof. Angelo Farina). With serious convolver there are unlimited combinations for musicians, DJs and sound engineers. Having some DSP effects is nothing new and unique. Of course one can buy e.g. Intel Atom motherboard and use Linux as a convolver with a fraction of cost:

Motu has built in crossovers and RME (Babyface) does not?

Re: Hardware convolver and standalone mode

Now are you talking crossover or convolver? And are we comparing apples with oranges? There are enough features that RME has and Motu doesn't, so what?

Re: Hardware convolver and standalone mode

Convolver - user can load any filter (crossover, reverb, DRC etc.) by using third party software.

I was told by RME support team crossover filters are absent in Babyface driver. Why do you think it's unimportant?

Re: Hardware convolver and standalone mode

The parametric eqs on the outputs can be used as crossover. Subwoofer operation is directly supported by a special filter. More will not come as there are enough (and even cheap) units doing all the rest perfectly (as you also stated).

Re: Hardware convolver and standalone mode

Would be good if RME could provide at least what miniDSP has:

http://www.minidsp.com/applications/auto-eq-with-rew

it's only about programming - I assume hardware is "good enough". Adding another and another equipment for DSP is not a good idea in the field. Keeping it simple makes system stable. I'm working on portable stage speakers (www.horns.pl) and having portable soundcard with convolver would make me independent on environment, simplify acoustic experiments and measurements.
