Topic: Octamic 2 and unbalanced line inputs / impedance issue
Hello RME team and users,
I intend to purchase the Octamic 2 in a few months to extend my Babyface analog inputs.
Some questions are spinning in my head regarding the way i want to use this machine.
I'm in electronic music and i just need to record my synths and drum machine.
I have a VA synth here that ouputs the stereo signal on TRS connectors with +/- 4dBu and 10 kOhm impedance.
I was wondering whether it would be a problem to send this unbalanced signal directly into the TRS input of the Octamic, knowing that the specs say it's a balanced input with 5 kOhm.
In case it might cause some trouble, would it be clever to use a passive DI box in-between to get the signal balanced and lower the impedance (to go through the MIC/XLR input) ?
Currently, i record this synth directly through the line inputs of the Babyface and i get a clear sound but with a low level, i usually have to raise the gain to get something workable in the DAW.
Also i noticed that the transients are rather dull.
That's why i'm thinking of using a preamp interface to have a larger gain range.
As you can see, i'm almost a newbie in regards to these technical issues.
I'm trying to get a clear and dynamic signal path.
Many thanks in advance for your help and advice.
