Topic: Midi Remote issues

Hi,

Midi Remote is acting strangely in our setup:

PC with Win7Pro64bit and MIDI Remote 1.6
HDSPe MADI
3x Micstasy
1x ADI-648

connected in a Madi ring, all via MADI optical and a MIDI loopback cable for the ADI-648.

Basically all runs fine with MIDI over MADI, but once in a while one of the status displays in MIDI Remote changes from "online" to "no response" and back, so the remote connection is lost for a short moment while audio keeps running normally.
While this happens, the level meters show irrational values (overs where there are no peaks).

Once in a while after running several hours with just smaller MIDI "dropouts" the complete remote doesn't respond anymore (audio keeps running), all device controls show "no response" and the only way I found so far to have it change back to normal is to reboot the whole system. (closing and opening MIDI Remote has no effect, restarting the Micstasys neither)
BTW, in this situation I can still import and export the actual values of the devices with the arrows in MIDI Remote, but it doesn't work "online" anymore.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Hendrik

P.S. I also have a SSL Nucleus running on the same system, with MIDI emulated via Ethernet for this hardware controller, shouldn't be a problem though I think...

Re: Midi Remote issues

Anyone?
Is there any software or tool I could use to monitor the MIDI data within the MADI stream?

Thanks,
Hendrik

Re: Midi Remote issues

Hi all,

the problem mentioned above still persists. And I couldn't figure out anything that reveals the source of the problem.
Does anyone have an idea how I can get an answer from RME or any other official support if not in this forum? Is it normal that I get no answer here for more than 6 weeks?

Thanks,
Hendrik

Re: Midi Remote issues

Hendrik

I'm running the same setup (except MADIface instead of HDSPe MADI) without problems, if a clean clock setup is provided. Also with MIDI loopback cable for ADI-648. One drawback is overshoots of the MIDI Remote Micstasy levelmeters, which are not shown on the Hardware Micstasy frontpanel. But that behaviour can be reduced by fast polling, which increases the bus load on the other hand. Sorry, not helpful I'm afraid.

Best wishes

I'm not aware of any clock problems, our micstasys seem to rum fine audio-wise.
How do you set up your clock?
I'm clocking via the optical inputs, because the idea of running a separate WC cable next to the optical would be the opposite of what I was aiming for.. galvanic separation, just one cable needed, simple setup etc.
I could give a try to a WC connection between the micstasys..

Interesting to hear that the problem with the meter dropouts doesn't seem to be related to the lost remote connection (though they also stop running when the remote connection is lost and dropouts only appear when "no response" is shown even for a short moment).

Best,
Hendrik
