Topic: 64bit OS Vista and OLD 9652 card issue with reaper DAW

1st post here. I finally found out how to get the drivers to install on the new computer for my old PCI 9652 card BUT now I am having a problem with my DAW finding the inputs and outputs for the card. With my old XP machine i have the ASIO96/52 driver pulldown option in the menu's with the new computer I do NOT. The only ASIO option is for the "ASIO Hammerfall DSP" for my driver. and Reaper has NO input or outputs for the card. i do not have the old digi screen where I can check the sync for the adat inputs and sample rate and set Latency. there is nothing for that anywhere I can find on the computer. The "Hammerfall mixer, and Hammerfall DSP" icons in the windows tray do nothing when you click on them. What install step am I missing with this new OS? Please help me i have three albums I need to finish and am not very happy with the fact my old computer died yesterday

Incorrect driver (for HDSP cards only). And sorry to say this, the correct driver for the Hammerfall cards will not work on your 64-bit OS... Vista or W7 32 would work.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ok so there is my asnwer! thanks guys I will get a differant computer!

You don't need a different PC to use your old PCI 9652 - You simply need a 32-Bit OS to get it working :-)  W7 32-Bit would do fine...

Of course, a new I/O interface would allow you to run a 64 Bit OS (and as much RAM as you desire)...

windows 7 is a 64bit OS but can it run my sound card if I set it a certain way in the OS?

Re: 64bit OS Vista and OLD 9652 card issue with reaper DAW

well I would like a new RAYDAT but 1000.00 for that is pushing things when i just dumped 850.00 into a new computer and the older card works awesome. OR is there a way to "force" windows vista into a 32 bit mode?

Re: 64bit OS Vista and OLD 9652 card issue with reaper DAW

W7 (and Vista - and even XP) are offered in 32-Bit or 64-Bit versions.  The 32-Bit versions are limited to approx 4GB of TOTAL System RAM.  The 64-Bit Versions offer unlimited RAM support ("Unlimited" for most practical purposes, but there are still limits), but they do require compatible 64-Bit Device Drivers, and older hardware (like your 9652) might not support a 64-Bit Operating System.

Get a 32-Bit Version of W7, and your current card should work fine on your "New" PC, but you will be artifically limiyed to 3.5GB-4GB of TOTAL SYSTEM RAM.  If your PC has 8GB of RAM installed, you'll only be able to use approx 3.5GB.

Used RME Gear is also a sure-fire way to cut some of the "Sticker Shock" of buying new.  I know RME hates this, but I've yet to buy a single piece of RME gear "New" (and I own tons and tons of it!).  I've literally saved thousands upon thousands of dollars comapred to buying "new"...

Re: 64bit OS Vista and OLD 9652 card issue with reaper DAW

I bought my 9652 new 13 years ago when I 1st started recording bands and it has never failed me! NOT ONCE!!!! this isn't even a fail really it is just old and kinda limited compared to what new machines can do!

Re: 64bit OS Vista and OLD 9652 card issue with reaper DAW

Yep - Standards and time march on.  I'm slightly surprised we still have PCI on "modern" MoBo's AT ALL!!!  I'm still pimping a Multiface/PCI I picked up used back in 2002-2003 or so - It also works like a charm!!!  But I was lucky that the Multiface is still supported (still sold "new") and has 64-Bit Drivers for W7.

The "Hammerfall Lite" series just missed RME's 64-Bit Boat IMO sad

Again, you CAN continue to use your old card in your shiny new PC, you'll just have to run a 32-Bit version of Windows (I would look no further than W7 32-Bit).  The only true limitation of a 32-Bit OS is the hard 4GB RAM limit, and 32-Bit OS' generally only allow an application to use 2GB RAM max...
