Topic: Babyface Breakout Extension Cable No Phantom Power

I'm absolutely not getting any phantom power (or just too little to be noticeable) with the extension cable for Line input L and Line R. I have no condenser microphones to test this but I am using the Countryman Type 10 DI box which requires phantom power, it is working fine by just using the breakout cable but when I connect the extension I'am not getting any power to the DI box unit at all.

Have you activated 48V in the BF mixer?

Yes I did, I've tried it for both Line input L and also R when using the extension cable.

Re: Babyface Breakout Extension Cable No Phantom Power

Contact your distributor to get a new extension cable. The first batch has been faulty.

Re: Babyface Breakout Extension Cable No Phantom Power

Ok, a month or so have past since I sent back the breakout extension cable back to the distributor and I just received a new one yesterday.. but the result is the same, I could not get phantom power from it. Could you please help me analyze the case, thank you. For verification my Babyface serial number is 23142506, I'm not sure if I've been sent a proper 'new cable' from either the distributor or direct from RME.

Make sure the D-sub connector at the unit is properly fixed, means does not have loose screws. Else: Is the problem the same as before, breakout works, breakout plus extension does not? If so contact KDM, they will try to help.

Re: Babyface Breakout Extension Cable No Phantom Power

Also make sure that you do not screw in the cable _too_ tight (as to overscrew and thus make the Babyface's screw turn, too).

Re: Babyface Breakout Extension Cable No Phantom Power

Thankyou!! The problem is solved! I just gave it some really tight turns. I usually screw it together pretty tight (no loose screws) but I'd say it has to be even tighter to work, I just didn't know how tight I have to go and was afraid of messing up the the D-sub connector if I use excessive force.
