Topic: I need help bad. Moving from M-audio Need Mastering Grade Interface.

I seriously need to know if the conversion on the BABYFACE is the same as the UFX or UCX.
Also need to know who the headphone and mic amp stack up to the other 2.
I need mastering grade quality and good pre's.
If the BABYFACE equals to the UFX AND UCX in terms of conversion and pre's I will save alot of money.

I've never owned RME products but I have heard and used the FF400 which is why I am choosing RME. I have Interned in nice studios and know good sound quality. RME has that sound I need.


I need some sound knowledge.

Specs are listed on the product pages and in the manuals in detail. UFX is the flagship unit, so will have the best performance of the 3 you list, but all are high quality.

As Jeff wrote, the UFX provides the best AD/DA conversion, but all are high-end units with only small differences in the specifications.

- The Babyface has the same DA chips as the UFX. The specs of the Babyface are a little bit different than the UFX, based on the power consumption (USB bus). The UFX provides switchable studio levels on the outputs with up to +24 dBu on the XLR out 1/2.
- The UCX uses different AD/DA converters than the Babyface and the UFX.
- The preamps are similar in all three interfaces. The UFX provides 4 x Advanced Parallel Conversion with better specs on all four preamp inputs.

Guys thanks for your understanding. This is a big step for me. I need mastering grade quality and it seems the ufx is the way to go. Jeff thank you for making an exception for me. My final question: Does the ucx have better specs than ufx. I really need mastering grade quality and excellent. It is important for some of us to hear directly from you, because making a purchase like this is a big deal and plays a major role with my goals. Hearing from the wisdom flow from your mouths instill's confidence in my decision.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest the UFX.

Your getting the quality, along with an abundance of useful features (DURec, 12 I/O, 2 Midi I/O, 16 ADAT I/O, etc...)

I recently upgraded from a FF400 and would never look back!

Please have a look on the specifications on both product pages. All in all the they are nearly the same, with a small advantage for the UFX. I doubt that somebody can recognize a real difference between both converters with a usual monitoring setup. Any small change of the mic position or turning the head has more influence on the sound, than a change between these converters. As always with RME, the choice should be based on the needed features, not on the converters.

Is the babyface better than the fireface 400?  If so i would settle the babyface. Thank for all your help. You gentlemen do a great job. Thanks Ian your 2 cents tells me a lot.
