Topic: Fireface 800, help with an incomplete flash update
Hi there,
I have an older Fireface 800, its around 6 or 7 years old. Its been packed away collecting dust for a couple of years while I pursued other things, and I've decided to sell it, as its in great shape and still worth coin except....
Not long before I packed it away, I figured I'd update the firmware. During the flash, the software hung, and afterwards I was unable to get the flash update to work.
At the time, after troubleshooting, I had it figured that it needed to be sent back in to be reflashed. As I was going away to work, I didn't have time, or an address to deal with the shipping, and so it got packed away without firmware.
I'm going to be digging it out of storage in the next few days. I'm wondering what steps I can take to try and solve this. As I remember it was an issue with a certain batch of firefaces that they had this fut problem. Could I get a list of steps to take to troubleshoot this and report back, before I send it in?
I've also read in this forum something of an onboard BIOS backup? Is this something that I'd be able to access?
Then there is the issue of the canadian distributor being flaky. I've read a thread with many claiming terrible service from Music Marketting, and that sending it to Synaptics in the US is the way to go. Is this still the case, has RME switched canadian distributors? Or, this being out of Warranty, is there a chance that there is an electronics service company that can do it locally, or in Vancouver (I'm about a 5 hour drive from Vancouver)?
Thanks in advance...
