Topic: Preamp quality: Fireface 800 vs Babyface?

Hi.

I've been a long-time user of Fireface 800 and Octamic D for many years, and have enjoyed flawless performance form both on my Desktop DAW PC.

I'm considering buying a Babyface to use with my new Macbook Pro. I read wonderful reviews regarding Babyface, USB and latency, but would love to know how good the pre-amps are on babyface, especially compared to the Fireface 800.

Any advice woould be greatly appreciated!

The Babyface preamps are very good indeed. I recorded Mahler's 8th symphony live two days ago and the oboist failed some notes. Luckily I had recorded the dress rehearsal with my Babyface, so I promptly replaced the poorly performed notes with the rehearsal recording. You'd be hard pressed to hear the edit and this is in a multitrack recording with Earthworks preamps and Lavry Blue and Prism converters.

To compare the FF800 and Babyface, the Babyface is in my opinion much better. Clearer, less congested.
