Topic: Fireface 800 W/ Saffire Pro 40

Hey guys, question, I have a fire face 800 on the way and have never used an RME product, sold many, never use. Anyways what I want to do is exploit the 10 analogue OUTPUTS on saffire pro 40 that will be connected via adat to the rme (the rme will be my actual interface). Is there a way to do this routing in total mix? Maybe spdif out of rme to spdif in on the Focsrite and the route the spdif out to the analogue outs on the saffire? Not really sure if this will show up in total mix or not

Re: Fireface 800 W/ Saffire Pro 40

The ADAT and SPDIF ports should allow you to connect the FF800 digital outs to the digital ins on the Saffire. You will have to check with Focusrite or read the manual to see if the digital in to analog out routing can be stored in the unit for stand alone operation, or if you need to keep it connected on FireWire.

Then any audio routed to the digital outs of the FF800 will be present at the analog outs of the Focusrite.

I think the issue is going to be the ability to use the saffire in standalone with the spdif programed to the analogue outputs

Re: Fireface 800 W/ Saffire Pro 40

Hi,

I have a FF800 and a Liquid Saffire 56 working together and had a lot of trouble trying to make both work using the same Firewire Hub(iMac i5). Focusrite products seems to be very pick in this situation, to the point that I had to give up trying to use FF800 as a master clock in favor of Saffire, because saffire saturated my Firewire buss frequently(using FF800 with firewire 800 port didn't help either). So now I'm using FF800 hooked up with Saffire's ADAT, while I wait for a Thunderbolt Firewire hub solution to hit the market, so I can have both units using different Firewire busses.... and boy, I do miss Totalmix flexibility A LOT!

Hope this help.

see ya

thanks man, yeah I ditched the saffire and just got a more "intense" patchbay for when I need more flexibility
