Topic: Buffer rate overridden by PT10 and Reaper 4.0

I am at a lost -

I have 3 DAWs on my machine - ProTools10, Reaper 4, SawStudio 5.1.

In Saw Studio if I set my RME HDSP buffer to 1024 and I monitor through the DAW I have a noticeable delay - as expected.

In Reaper and ProTools if do the same I barely have any delay - its as though these DAWs are ignoring and using a lower buffer rate than the soundcard.

Please tell me I am overlooking something obvious.

Dave

Can't confirm this for REAPER 4 on Win XP SP3.

Re: Buffer rate overridden by PT10 and Reaper 4.0

Hi Dave,

at least in reaper you have an option in the audio settings where you can override the soundcards settings.  Preferences->Audio->Device

Yeah that doesnt work - if I put 512 in for the block size and check the box.  I dont get the latency Id expect.

God only knows what the issue is - but I sure would love for when my CPU starts to tank on larger projects to be able to up my buffer size to buy me more HP.

That's not supported by the RME driver. You need to set it in the DSP Settings window!

Again the DSP window settings dont alter what the buffer size is in PT or reaper on my machine.  Well except that a setting of 1024 or greater doesnt pass any audio in PT.

Because you need to set the buffer size in the RME DSP Settings not REAPER.

uggghhh - I have tried to say I am changing it and no dice.....

cowboy tell me this - hdsp32.exe if thats what I am seeing in my process window is that a 64bit driver?  Is it possible the 32bit driver keeps installing on my system and is making things wonk?

Firmware and driver version? Tried DIGICheck ASIO?

Hardware Revision 55
Driver 3.27

I download Digicheck but I am not familiar enough to see how to use it to troubleshoot my issue

thanks,

Dave

What you are seeing is not the driver, but the little application for the settings dialog - this doesn't need to be a 64-bit program. And there is no such thing as a driver that "keeps installing".

No, he does not, the tag does not say RME, does it...? It's just the forum rank, based on the number of postings.

Re: Buffer rate overridden by PT10 and Reaper 4.0

thanks dawg - so any ideas on resolution?

and FYI a "specialist" is generally a posisiton within a corporation.  So can ur tude and help me solve my issue.

Re: Buffer rate overridden by PT10 and Reaper 4.0

Have you tried measuring the "barely any delay" you observed? Are you sure both programs are performing software monitoring? I.e. can you apply software mixer effects? Are both set to use ASIO?
Also, have you contacted the software manufacturers?

And thanks for the "FYI", but the word "specialist" has nothing to do with belonging to a corporation... HeadScratch

Yes on the software monitoring - i can put a high pass on the channel in the DAW and it is definitely impacted.  Positive on the ASIo comment...  I have tried Cockos for help - drawing a blank and lets be honest AVid support blows.  Saw Studio probably has the best support but that's the only software that is interacting with your hardware correctly.

And dude its all cool on the specialist - its a very common title in corporate America - but oh yeah you probably aren't American and you work for are lucky enuff to work for a mom and pop audio hardware company....   smile
