Topic: USB 3.0 interface for laptops ?

Hi

Is there currently a portable audio/midi RME unit that takes advantage of USB 3.0 ?

If not is one planned ?

Re: USB 3.0 interface for laptops ?

The UFX Powerhouse is completely happy on USB2 - so I doubt USB3 is really needed for anything but a monster device with massive I/O (like MADI over USB or similar).

Also seeing as Intel just now (a few weeks ago) released "Native" USB3 support on the z77 chipset (any previous Intel offering that had USB3 was a secondary non-native chipset), we might start seeing more USB3 peripherals creep into the market.  I'd asssume there might be a way to tighen timings on USB3 to improve performance, but RME is doing a splended job with USB2 at the moment - and even the UFX isn't limited by USB2...

cool

MADIface-XT+ARC / 3x HDSP MADI / ADI648
2x SSL Alphalink MADI AX
2x Multiface / 2x Digiface /2x ADI8

Re: USB 3.0 interface for laptops ?

Right. There is no real-world USB3 standard in the moment. Every USB3 chip manufacturer cooks his own driver soup. Thus there is no guarantee for a working and stable solution. With the USB3 driver in Windows 8 and Intel's new chipset the situation might change.

There really is no point in USB 3 interfaces.

Even a UFX running SMUX/4 (192k) on all channels possible is not near the bandwidth limit of USB 2.

It would just be marketing hype, you will never see any benefit in a USB 3 interface.
