Topic: RME Fireface UFX ADAT I/O question

If my Tascam FW-1884, or Berhinger AD8000 is a slave to the RME as far as ADAT I/O is concerned (and I'm not using the FW-1884 Audio drivers in any way), when I plug a mic into the Tascam or the Berhinger am I using the A/D converters of the Tascam/Berhinger or the RME?

Am I overriding the A/D Convertrers on channels 1-12 of the RME by slaving either the Tascam or the Berhinger?

Re: RME Fireface UFX ADAT I/O question

No.  It is just that the clock of the Tascam or Behringer is slaved to the RME.  When digital devices are connected together, their clocks must be synced.  One device master , one slave.

The A/D conversion is still done by whatever unit the audio signal is connected to.

Re: RME Fireface UFX ADAT I/O question

You are using the A/D converter of the Tascam/Behringer. The signal that is transmitted over ADAT is a purely digital signal which is converted from analog at the Tascam/Behringer.
