Topic: Fireface 800 with Laptop and Cubase 6.5 - Issues and Solutions

I have some projects that require me to have 8 inputs and be mobile.
Thus it's time to set up my RME Fireface 800 with my laptop.

Cubase 6.5 has been working fine on my laptop with an RME Babyface (USB soundcard).

Laptop specs:
HP dv6-2190us - Intel Core i7-720QM processor 1.60GHz
4 gb DDR3
The laptop has Firewire 400 - 4 pin connector.
Win7 x64 bit

I installed the latest Fireface 800 drivers and tried opening up a Cubase 6.5 project.
No sound in or out of Cubase 6.5 with the Fireface.
In the RME Fireface Mixer it recognized the audio coming in through the inputs, but Cubase 6.5 did not.
So initially, no luck getting it to work with laptop.

So the solution?

1) I disabled any unneccessary peripherals in control panel like HP Webcam, modem, LAN, Wireless, onboard audio, card reader, and others.
2) Changed the power scheme on Win7 to performance.
3) Installed the Legacy Firewire driver as outlined here:

4) Reboot.

Now the Fireface 800 works fine on my laptop for now.  I'll keep you posted, if I encounter any more issues with the laptop.

Re: Fireface 800 with Laptop and Cubase 6.5 - Issues and Solutions

Hello,

After doing a few sessions with my laptop,
Laptop specs:
HP dv6-2190us - Intel Core i7-720QM processor 1.60GHz
4 gb DDR3
The laptop has Firewire 400 - 4 pin connector.
Win7 x64 bit

and my Fireface 800, I have encountered another issue.

When I have the RME Fireface settings at just Analog 1-8, it works fine.
But once I increase to Analog 1-8 plus SPDIF or Analog + SPDIF + ADAT
it won't work. The audio is garbled and performance stops.

Does anyone know how to remedy this?  How to increase the performance of the RME Fireface 800 when using a laptop's firewire 400 port?

Thank You,
marQue
