Topic: ADI-192 not seeing incoming ADAT

I have just moved my ADI192 out of the machine room into the studio, in order to plug in various DACs / preamps / synths and use the excellent SRC to bring the ADAT back into my MADI rig. Unfortunately it refuses to sync, or even see that there's an ADAT signal.

Admittedly the cables are quite long from machine room into behind the studio console, but I have had other devices on there today which have clocked and locked quite happily - namely a TC Electronic Fireworx and a cheap Behringer Ultragain Pro8.

The ADI192 is quite happy on other ADAT cables, so I'm assuming it's simply not liking that particular cable pair, but then it seems odd that I'd expect cheaper and nastier kit to fail to connect at times when the RME would!

Any ideas?

No ideas?

Damn.

How long is the cable connection? Have you got other cables of similar length?

Re: ADI-192 not seeing incoming ADAT

Afternoon Daniel, thanks for the reply.

10m, I have a pair, I have tried swapping them round but no luck with that either - yet both work with other devices.

I have now tried it with other cables of similar and longer lengths - again the other devices lock up on those cables quite happily, but the 192 refused to acknowledge they are even connected. Infuriating.

Re: ADI-192 not seeing incoming ADAT

Hell, even an old and cheap Behringer D/A will lock up to the ADAT signal. What can't two RME boxes with all the clever sync stuff handle it?!

Re: ADI-192 not seeing incoming ADAT

It's certainly not about the "sync stuff", but about signal quality.
Maybe a simple little Toslink repeater will help, e.g like this:
