Topic: Mixer question: Fireface 400 set up with Ableton live

I have recently purchased a Fireface 400 sound device for use at my home studio.

I am running it with Ableton live using Mac OSX lion.

This is an extremely broad question - but does anyone have any suggestions on would be the ideal Fireface Mixer preset for A) Recording and writing and B) Mixing.

I make electronic music and use a prophet 600 as well as external sends (Roland SP-404 and Moogerfooger Lowpass filter).

I want to get the most out of the device - and am unsure if I should be monitoring in Ableton, or with the mixer.

I'm concerned I may not be using the device to its full potential.

Thanks for any advice.

Re: Mixer question: Fireface 400 set up with Ableton live

In recording, the mixer is bypassed completely - so no need to set anything.

In playback, you can use, but you can also totally ignore it (i.e. leave at default) and mix inside your audio software, or even externally, i.e. feeding separate channels to an analog summing device. This is entirely a matter of choice and preference, so again, no right and wrong as such.
Familiarize yourself with the use of the mixer and see if some of that can enhance your workflow... If not, that's perfectly fine... cool
