Topic: Help configure my Win XP Babyface rig

Ok I know Win XP is a dinosaur. 
I cannot afford to upgrade the computer right now.

I have a Core 2 Duo laptop running XP.

While tracking Sonar hesitates sometimes, ruining tracks. 
Babyface latency is set at 1024 samples.

Track count and plugins are minimal.

The hesitation/ skipping is intermittent but the hiccup throws off my timing (the recorded track seems unaffected) and so I stop and delete. 

I am wondering if anyone could suggest a starting point for my troubleshooting.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

BTW -- I am recording to the 7200rpm system drive, but I have not had ANY problems until I got the RME.  My old Edirol interface, while noisy, never caused hiccups.

Also, if you have not done so, try it with WiFi disabled, these drivers often cause problems (high DPCs).

Eliminating some troublesome (and unused) devices and drivers helped on a mixing session.  I will reply next time I track.  (possibly later this week)

I use a Focusrite ISA one with digital option for tracking.  I wonder if there is a clock conflict when using the external pre.

If the clocking is misconfigured, you would have pops and clicks on the recorded tracks. But if you explain the connections and clock setting of both devices, we can verify the setting are correct.

Thanks!  I don't have any pops or clicks.  The Focusrite is connected to the ADAT in on the Babyface and the sync LED shows activity.  Both set to 48k.  I think all is well there.  However if I use the SPDIF out of the Focusrite there are anomalies.  If I use the ADAT out, it is perfect.  The pre is a left and right, and so I thought SPDIF optical would be the go to choice, but ADAT is fine too.

Not enough info, please report the exact settings for the ISA and Babyface.

RME Driver 10.10.11 version 1.010 hardware revision 176

SPDIF in TMS us NOT selected.  The ISA is set to 48.  The RME is set to 48, clock source optical in.  When clock source is internal, the sync LED flashes, when set to Optical in, it burns solid.

The dialog box correctly displays input status (ADAT when connected ADAT and SPDIF when connected SPDIF) 

I'm not sure if I left anything else out.

I understand that I cannot use both SPDIF and ADAT simultaneously, and I am able to use my ISA One via ADAT.  SPDIF is not necessary but it would be nice to know that it functions as intended though.

OK.  Now I have driver 03.05.12 version 1.022 hardware revision 185.  This is the most current correct?

All other settings are the same.
