Topic: ADI 8QSM Using Madi and AES simultaniously?

Hi there,

another thing I do not fully understand from the manual, I cannot try without buying the cables ...
My ADI 8QSM is connected to the PC via RME HDSPe Madi card. The DAWs Stereo out goes via the ADI 8QS analogue out to the monitors. Now, when I want to plug in some AES EBU device into the chain, would that be possible? Let's say, I want to route digital I/O 5-8 from the AES plug into the Madi stream, but at the same time still have my monitoring available (which comes from Madi input 1/2). Can I do that?

Thanks!

The manual is clear about that: if you switch the DA's input to AES then it is on AES, not MADI.

I think the extension card for the ADI8QS by Directout Technologies is capable to handle exact this requirement. Try to find out there...

Re: ADI 8QSM Using Madi and AES simultaniously?

I checked DirectOut Tec and their Products. I am a little confused now reading these instructions:
http://www.directout.eu/upload/dokument … de_v10.pdf

"Firmware 3.0 for the ADI-8 QS provides a new Matrix Mode. This mode increases the functionality of the whole device significantly, as it allows independent routing of all 32 audio I/Os at the same time (analog and digital)."

Does that mean, I can update the firmware of my ADI 8 QS to 3.0 and independently route all analogue and digital I/Os freely without exchanging the Madi card with a DirectOut Tec I64? Or is this rather a specialized firmware by DirectOut Tec for the RME unit?
In the manual of the 8 QS I read, that the flashrom needs to be reprogrammed for a firmware-update, so i guess I would need to ship it to RME / DirectOut Tec for that purpose, wouldn't I? Also, according to the manual. the firmware version would show on the LEDs of the ADI 8 QS when switched on. This is not the case with my unit ...
I appreciate any advice! Thanks, guys!

Yes. You should refer directly to DirectOut.

Re: ADI 8QSM Using Madi and AES simultaniously?

I think I was missunderstood here ... I didn't want to DA convert Madi and AES simultaniously. My question was only, if the AES I/Os are being streamed into the madi Stream! This section from the product description seems to suggest just that:

Die I64 MADI Card versieht den ADI-8 QS mit einem 64-kanaligen MADI Ein- und Ausgang. Koaxialer und optischer Ausgang arbeiten parallel zum AES/EBU und ADAT Ausgang, geben also die gleichen Daten aus.

So can I use the ADI 8 QS to integrate e.g. a hardware reverb with AES IO via madi to my DAW (HDSPe Madi)? I just cannot test this, as I don't have any AES devices, which I would only buy, if I don't need to buy additional gear to make it work. Please tell me, if I am wrong or not ...

It clearly says output (Ausgang), not input.

Re: ADI 8QSM Using Madi and AES simultaniously?

Trubadix,

please contact us via info@directout.eu, we'll be happy to answer your questions re. the i64.MADI module and the matrix firmware 3.1 for the ADI-8 QS.
The matrix firmware will allow to combine analog and AES signals into the MADI stream and send the same or different MADI input signals to the analog and AES outputs - it's a matrix.
