Topic: Multichannel

Hi

Using my 9632's ADAT out I would like to play multi channel audio.
Driver is 3.27.
OS is Win7x64.

I fail miserably:
Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Sound  --> ADAT1 properties --> Advanced
select 6/8 channel, e.g. 48/16
--> error message: This setting is not supported by the device.

What am I missing?

Re: Multichannel

W7 will only let you set multichannel properties for the card's first device ("Loudspeakers"). I don't even see the setting you describe on my systems.

Re: Multichannel

Err, ok, and what do we do about this?

Re: Multichannel

The same as before - recommend to buy the AO4S-192.

Sorry, I can't see how this is related.
I have a 8 channel ADAT out, I want to play multi channel audio through that.
I already have a DAC.

Re: Multichannel

In earlier driver versions (3085) I did not have this problem.

Re: Multichannel

Is this going to be fixed in a future driver version?

Re: Multichannel

See # 2 - not an issue of the driver. You can rereoute channels in the mixer, though.

Re: Multichannel

Sorry, I don't quite understand, please explain:

I want to play back an 8 channel source through ADAT1-8. What do I need to do?

Re: Multichannel

Can you please explain that again?

Re: Multichannel

Buy the AO4-S192 so the HDSP 9632 is enabled to perform 6 channel playback via the speaker device. Then reroute these 6 channels via TotalMix to the ADAT output.

Re: Multichannel

Ah, now I got it.
Kind of an expensive solution.
But this works with driver 3.085!
Why does it not work in newer drivers?

Re: Multichannel

From the manual, page 22:

Multichannel
PowerDVD can also operate as software decoder, sending a DVD's multichannel data stream
directly to the analog outputs of the HDSP 9632. Supported are all modes, from 2 to 8 channels,
at 16 bit resolution and 48 kHz sample rate. Playback via the ADAT output of the HDSP
9632 is also supported.

So this should work!??

Re: Multichannel

The manual refers to the very old driver. That driver has not been fully compatible to Windows 7, WDM, and all the MS multimedia stuff. The  current driver has this compatibility but misses the old multichannel streaming on various ports (like ADAT), because it collides with the new stuff.

Re: Multichannel

I see...
So that means 8 channel ADAT will not be supported in the future?

How about other cards, like AIO?

Re: Multichannel

The AIO won't support straight Multichannel playback to ADAT (because W7 does not), but you can play back surround on the first two and subsequent channels without adding an AO4S to the card, and then reroute to ADAT.

Re: Multichannel

Hi,
Just a question : what kind of player do you use and what is your purpose ?
If it is for playing files straight from the explorer, I use XMPlay which supports ASIO. So I can play multichannel files and send them to the outputs I want without using Microsoft's path.

Re: Multichannel

Hi

Main purpose is movie playback. I use Media Player Classic HC, which does not support ASIO as far as I know. But it does support WASAPI exclusive through reclock.

Re: Multichannel

Have you tried the ASIO plugin for WMP ?
http://sourceforge.net/projects/asiowmpplg/

Perhaps it could help ?

Re: Multichannel

Thanks for the link. But that one only seems to work with WMP, not with MPC.

Re: Multichannel

Here's one for MPC: http://surodev.com/?p=451 (ASIO – Directshow Audio Renderer Filter)

Re: Multichannel

Thanks, I'll try that one!
