Topic: USB over CAT5 for remote recording with UFX

Hi,

I'd like the RME doctors, or someone who has tested this solution to answer to this one :

I want to record from the UFX remotely, with USB through cat5.

What would be the best usb2 over cat5 extender specification for a safe operation?
I guess that an adapter powered through usb wouldn't be as safe as something with it's own power supply, am I right?

best regards

Mitch

Re: USB over CAT5 for remote recording with UFX

I know the Icron Ranger is working via cat5e, we have a forum member using this system already.

Jeff:
I saw the Icron Ranger on the internet, and I'm glad somone seems to have tested it sucessfully.

So does it really offer the same bandwidth and stability as a 1.5 meter regular usb cable?

boz:
I won't even think of using the wireless extender for any critical application....
but I'm still interested to know if someone tried it on an UFX for sreaming audio and if it worked...

Mitch

Re: USB over CAT5 for remote recording with UFX

Now this gets interesting. As I'm working as FOH engineer with UFX on stage at small gigs it would be NICE to roll CAT5e cable. It's so cheap etc. If it gets damaged just replace it smile

Would this work (price is reasonable): http://www.usbfirewire.com/Parts/rr-47-2041.html

From the specs - yes, but you will have to try yourself.

MC: Does it matter if I use USB 1.1 extender as long as I don't run audio over USB? Just control UFX with computer?

With 1.1 the communication will not start.
