Topic: Clean install OSX 10.6 to avoid kernel panic....

Hi,

I have erased my hard drive and now have only OSX 10.6 clean installed.
I have yet to use the software update and I might not install any of the applications on the factory CD i.e iLife etc..

My intention is to try to get this Macbook 5.2 (mid 2009) to run audio only.

At the moment, I use three turntables connected to a DDM4000 mixer that I want to input into the Babyface via XLR (L/R), record in a suitable DAW and output to active monitors via XLR to TRS.

This and play back from iTunes is all I really want to do and possibly some streaming if the set up allows; if it doesn't I'm not too concerned, I will just download and play.

I am not convinced that the most recent upgrade to OSX 10.6.8 and the most recent Babyface drivers are going to work on my MacBook as I have tried to install but keep on getting a kernel panic.

This is the reason I erased and installed so I can start and work from scratch to get to the right software/ firmware versions are compatible with each other. If it is older versions, I don't care as long as it handles the simple task of recording vinyl to computer then playback from sources.

Should I try and install the older Babyface driver version directly onto Snow Leopard 10.6 OR
would it be better to software upgrade to 10.6.8 then install the latest Babyface drivers?

I'm thinking that I probably need security updates etc but is there something I should miss out of the Apple software updates that would get the interface to install and work.

Thanks if you have read this and are going to reply

Brian

Don't use old drivers. You can install the current driver onto the clean OS and test. If it's OK, then update the OS and try again.
