Topic: Optimum converter levels...
Hi, I saw a video on the Sonnox Oxford site with Fab Dupont (of Puremix.com fame) where he claims that RME converters are optimised to -20db is this true? (I have the babyface by the way).
Thanks,
Chris

There is no such "optimization".

But I've always been led to believe that converters/plugins etc. work best at around -18db (0VU). For Pro Tools it is -18db. With Lynx it is -16db supposedly. I always assumed RME would be -18db but Fab mentioned -20db. Although, I don't suppose it matters THAT much (a few db either side).
Thanks.
Being overly conservative with levels (especially with 24bit AD converters) is generally never a bad thing, and almost always a good thing...
