Topic: Babyface not playing nice with Wifi dongle

I've had this random audio freezing with my (new) Babyface.

- No audio output on output meters within Totalmix, and no output on speakers/headphones.
- Totalmix eating CPU, interface and meters lag.
- No activity on ASIO (Cubase 5), even within the internal mixer.

I usually reconnect, and it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I tried to trace it to connected USB devices on my system, and I finally discovered that the Wifi dongle (Netgear) is the culprit. When I pull the dongle out, audio suddenly starts playing again (in the middle of the track in WMP or Cubase). And when I plug it back in, the same strange behaviour starts again.

How do I find out of this is due to the Babyface being power-starved, or bandwidth-starved? What are my options in either case?

For now, I am pulling out the dongle when working on audio. I would love it if I could have net up all the time.

Re: Babyface not playing nice with Wifi dongle

Obviously, this particular USB device is severely interfering with system performance. This might show you what is going on... Consider testing another USB WiFi device.

Re: Babyface not playing nice with Wifi dongle

Thanks for the tip, Daniel. DPClat does seem to indicate a wayward driver. Here is a screenshot:

I will try out a different wifi dongle (for the record, this is the Netgear Wireless N-150 USB). Any recommendations?

Edit: Let me report this to Netgear first and see how they respond.

Re: Babyface not playing nice with Wifi dongle

Hi,
I've had good luck with TrendNet USB WIFI Adapters.

I do not use the Trend Net connection software just the Windows driver.

Thanks Chris

Re: Babyface not playing nice with Wifi dongle

Thanks Chris, I found one here in India:

I am disconnecting my existing adapter right now when I record, but I will try this out when possible.
