Topic: FF800 questions before purchase

I'm looking at upgrading my current audio interface for a MacBook (OS X 10.7.5), in conjunction with Pro Tools 10.

So far, my 3 main picks are potentially:

RME Fireface 800
RME UFX
Lynx Aurora 8

I'm leaning towards the FF800 if anything, but I'd like to know a few things about the unit before I decide:

. How do the ADDA converters compare between the FF800 and the UFX?
. Will RME continue to update driver support for the FF800 - an interface that was released in 2004?
. Are there any perceivable compatibility issues running a FF800 with future Pro Tools releases? (i.e Pro Tools 11)
. Does RME recommend daisy-chaining their interfaces through an external hard-drive? (this is how my current interface is routed)

Any info and or advice would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Lynx Aurora 8 was released in 2004 or 2005 ?

Re: FF800 questions before purchase

The general consensus is that the ADDAs in the UFX are better than the FF800 - they are different and newer. I do not think RME has made any announcement for an end of life for the FF800, looking at the RME track record for driver support I suspect that drivers will be released for some time to come. Cannot help with the other questions - for daisy chaining you might find some answers in the FF800 and UFX manuals.
