Topic: Enabling OSX Keyboard MUTE button in TotalMix with Quickeys

Hello everyone,

I was thrilled the day I discovered that my apple keyboard could control my Fireface UC driver and take the output level up and down.
Especially because the knob (digital encoder) on my Fireface is faulty and make big jumps when I just turn it few notches.
Anyway, no need for a pricy monitor controller!! But the mute button was not working, what a pity.

Anyway I found a workaround, using a wonderful piece of OSX software called Quickeys: http://startly.com/products/quickeys/mac/4/
I created a macro that switches to Totalmix (and opens it if necessary), click on the mute button of my main outs and switch back to the software that was currently open.
You have to record the macro and actually do those actions. Quickeys is so clever that even if you move the totalmix window it still finds the mute button. If you change the proportions of the totalmix window, it will be lost because the actions is relative to the window's borders.

The input trigger has to be set to device -> mute and you have to set your keyboard as a device.

Here is what it looks like :

I also use Quickeys to automate actions in Pro Tools, like cut conform and draw fades in Beat Detective, takes usually 6 clicks and i am done pressing just one key.

Enjoy!
