Topic: RME HDSP 9632 breakout cable

Hi there,

I currently own the RME HDSP 9632, and the breakout cable which comes with it. I currently plug my mic and guitar into an 8 track recorder, and then output from the 8-track RCA into the RCA inputs in the HDSP 9632.

My question is, if i buy this:

Breakout cable

Will i be able to plug in my guitar/mic directly into the breakout cable, and then record straight into cubase?

Thanks for looking!

Re: RME HDSP 9632 breakout cable

The XLR cables on that breakout are Lo-Z balanced line-level connectors. Your guitar is a Hi-Z unbalanced connection. Microphones use the same XLR connector as the RME cable but you would want/need a preamp to provide enough gain for proper recording. So in summary.... No, the cable will not work like you had hoped but using the cable with a mic preamp (one that has a Hi-Z input) would be a good solution.

So would something like this:

Preamp

Do the job?

i.e. plug guitar/mic into preamp, output XLR from preamp into XLR input on breakout cable

Re: RME HDSP 9632 breakout cable

That would do the job... but I can't say I'd highly recommend it.

Behringer just rubs me wrong. ART still isnt top notch but Id rather use that personally.
