Topic: How to connect UfX with other preamps gear)

Hi there,

Could Anyone tell me what would be the best way to connect RME UFX (or even UCX) with UA 6176 and UA 710 twin preamp?

I use (most of the time) only one mic, I record one track at the time. I want to connect my UFX with  UA preamps. Is there a difference in connecting trough TRS conection at the back of UFX and using XLR (mic preamp in the front)?

So, I want to connect UFX with those two :

and

What is the best way to do it? I want to buy some quality cables, just to be clear what connections I should go for?

Thank you very much.

I guess you need some XLR to balanced jack cables, you can bypass the the UFX preamps that way.

Thanks!

So you think that XLR to balance would be better choice then XLR to XLR?

Thank you for your answer.

Anybody else with some advice?

Thanks

Hi Cardellino,

The outputs of your preamps come at line level thru XLR male sockets. The best way to feed this signal into the UFX is to make or buy cables with a female XLR at the preamp side and TRS 6.35n jack at the UFX side.

Using this cable, you'll send a line level signal in line level inputs. There is no gain in using XLR plugs in particular : if you really want to, you might connect the outputs of your preamps into the mics XLR inputs of the UFX, but that would require either inserting pads between the 2 units to bring down the signal level, or really tweaking the input sensitivity of the UFX thru TotalMix fx  to avoid inputs overload.

It is certainly possible, but I can't see what would be the benefit against the obvious way of connecting a line output into a line input....
