Topic: Headroom in TotalMix?

Currently TotalMix only allows a 6dB gain increase on its input and output faders.  I sometimes need more than this range for 'riding' the output.  One possibility is to set the input faders for an output mix high, and work the output fader from -6 to +6, for example.

What 'headroom' is designed in the TotalMix mix buss?  Does the mixing process use fixed point processing (0dbfs is the limit) or floating point (not clippable)?  In other words, providing the ADC is not clipping, will gain increases on the input fader result in possible internal clipping or is there enough 'headroom' in the mix path to avoid clipping before the signal is lowered in level by the output fader?

24 dB headroom on the bus. Easy to check via the gain pot in the dynamics section (if you have one).

Re: Headroom in TotalMix?

Thanks Matthias.

So down-shifted 4 bits on entry to TM, up-shifted on exit.  Just like our TASCAM mixer.

Dynamics processing?  What's that?  Us classical guys only do that by hand ... rotfl
